Essential Skills to Repair your Bow in the Field

Nothing can ruin an archery hunt faster than a broken bow.  Your string is the lifeline of your bow and fraying strings, broken D Loops, and serving coming untied are some of the most common reasons people have to quit their hunt early to drive to the nearest bow shop.  Being able to quickly repair these issues in the field means more time hunting and less time cursing at your equipment. With the proper tools you can easily learn how to fix most of issues that can happen to your bow in the field.

Here is a list of common skills every archer should know in order to keep their gear running:

  • Tie a D Loop
  • Redo a center serving
  • Tie nocking point knots
  • Tie in a peep sight

Things you will need to get started:

  • D Loop rope
  • D Loop Puller, D Loop pliers, or needle nose pliers
  • Serving material
  • Serving Jig
  • Knife
  • Lighter

Serving a String 

The serving on your string protects the string fibers and creates the proper nock fit for your arrows.  If serving becomes damaged it needs to be replaced ASAP or you run the risk of breaking your string, dry firing you bow, or loss of accuracy.
